Shriners Event Raises Record Amount

LEXINGTON
“Changing Children’s Lives, One Race at a Time,” presented by the Corporate Council for Shriners Hospital for Children Medical Center — Lexington was Friday, August 2, 2019. This was the third year for the event, and three times was a charm, as a record amount of donations, nearly $90,000. was raised.

Over 250 Central Kentuckians, including Shrine officials, attended the event at the Keeneland Entertainment Center on the grounds of Keeneland race track. The event included dinner, silent and live auctions, and dancing. The top live auction item was an exclusive dinner for eight in the “Breeders Cup Room” of Jeff Ruby’s Steakhouse in downtown Lexington. Jeff Ruby himself was in attendance to encourage donations for his gift to Shriners.

“We raise money to care for children, so we can continue the practice of medically treating all children who come to us, regardless of their family’s ability to pay,” said Dale Wallenius, director of philanthropy at Shriners. Tony Lewgood, Shriners CEO concurred, “It was a fun-filled evening, raising money to help our patients and families.”

“The goal and mission of the Corporate Council is to foster healthcare excellence for children through the philanthropic support of Lexington Shriners Medical Center,” said Jeff Koonce, market president of WesBanco and chair of the Corporate Council.
